You wouldn’t go after your friends’ boyfriends, would you?

Recently, we've had an influx of feedback from candidates who have been in touch to tell us they’ve had internal promotions. 🤩

One story in particular really stood out because it nearly didn’t happen and that would have been such a bloody big shame! 😬

A lovely girl who we placed in a Property Management role has just been awarded Property Manager of the year across the whole entire group, which is a major achievement. 💥 She’s also getting promoted and on her way to Senior, so she’s completely smashing it.

The funny thing is, when we first spoke to her about the role she had major concerns because she’d heard various horror stories about what the business was like to work for.

Suzie told her that she wasn’t going to insist she did anything, but that at the end of the day, people are people and her energy would be different to that of her friends. You wouldn’t go after your friends’ boyfriends because tastes are variable, and the same rule applies to places of work.

Luckily she re-framed the situation, went to the interview with an open mind and absolutely loved the vibe. Not even one year in and look at what she’s achieved with this business! 🤎

The ‘Right to Switch Off’ is one of the commitments introduced under The Employment Rights Bill by the Labour government. Its purpose is to ensure employees have the right to disconnect from work related comms such as phone calls and emails outside of their working hours without facing any negative consequences. Lockdown was a catalyst for flexible working, but the lines are now very much blurred between work and homelife, which is a short cut to a knackered and frazzled team. The Employment Bill changes aren’t expected to kick in until next year, but if you’re an employer, it’s worth considering how they will impact the running of your business. Start to think about what is classed as ‘essential communication’ and how it could change the way you manage your team. The last thing you want is to be known as a company who doesn’t prioritise the well-being of their employees, so make sure new policies aren’t put on the backburner for too long. Boundaries need to be in place to make sure everyone has a positive work-life balance and the ‘Right to Switch Off’ is what it says on the tin.
